Wheeldon lab: My interests in plant biology relates to increasing crop productivity. My research focuses on broadening our understanding of CRISPR guide designs in plants. CRISPR is now a proven tool to make direct changes to a plant's genome. A challenge that researchers face is designing guides that lead to cuts along the genome. Learning more about cut sites will allow us to optimize designs and improve gene editing. My research takes a multidisciplinary approach and combines both wet-lab and computational techniques. My interests in applying to the Plants3D program was to learn how to collaborate between engineers and plant biologists. Through the program's support, I intend to make the most of the resources available on campus.
