Primary Graduate Programs

Students from other programs are welcome.

PhD and Masters students may participate.

Application Format (to be submitted through an online portal)

  1. Several short answer responses (e.g. Name and Advisor)
  2. A letter of recommendation from your current or planned major professor (Due after the application is due)
  3. One PDF combining a current CV and short responses to the following questions:

(1) Whether you are a biologist or engineer, describe your motivation for joining the Plants3D program. Describe your interests in synthetic biology and translational research related to plant and plant microbial sciences.
(500 words max)

(2) Describe any relevant coursework, teamwork and other experiences that have prepared you to participate in an interdisciplinary training program.
(500 words max)

(3) Describe how this training program will benefit your educational path and future opportunities.
(500 words max)

(4) Describe any aspects of your current or proposed graduate research that you feel is suitable for a project within this program.
(500 words max)

We will accept applications February 16-March 9th, 2023.

The application link will be shared with faculty and interested students. If you or your faculty mentor did not receive the link, please send a request to serres@ucr.edu.

Students matriculated in a UCR graduate program in the Fall of 2023 or 2024 and interested in participating in the Plants3D programs should contact serres@ucr.edu. Talk to your major professor about the opportunity as well. They must write a letter of support to accompany your application.

We offer support for research materials and supplies, travel and interships, and collaborative projects to all trainees. However, due to NSF regulations, we are only able to provide NSF Fellowship support (1 full year) to US Citizens.
